Yesterday (12.07.11) I had the last exam... This semester is finished, but no any idea about the results. They will be known only after August =[
Right now I still enjoy Stralsund atmosphere . Sometimes we have days of "summer", but sometimes, like today, it is rainy and cold, but I really believe that one day I will open swimming season this year :D
To summarize this exchange period in FH-Stralsund, I can write some points of my finally formed opinion:
1. The level of education is really higher than in Latvia
2. People are not really friendly (in this part of Germany), but even here you can find some nice people to be friends with
3. Language problems - in the university you can feel fine without knowledge of German, but to live in Germany (no matter in which "land" or city) you must at least understand it
4. Prices - comparing to Latvian prices I can confirm that some goods are cheaper, some are more expensive. For example, food, furniture, clothes and shoes are cheaper here (of course you can find some luxury stuff, and branded things...), but medicine, gasoline, rental costs, books, art stuff (painting tools: colours, brushes, and so on) are more expensive! Visible expensive. But still, this part of Germany is really cheap comparing to others (like NRW, Bavaria, ...)
5. Surroundings - very beautiful and with a right atmosphere... I was born and lived all life till now in Riga/Latvia. Riga is Hanseatic city, and it is twin-city with the city i live now - Stralsund. The same architecture, the same countryside around the city... Also, water is about 300 m from my door, so all the time when I want to relax I go there and look on the water of the same sea I was used to watch in Latvia...
6. Impressions - only positive... ERASMUS programme gave me such a great opportunity to be here for so long, and to study in the place where others just relax ==> quota: "Studieren, wo andere gern Urlaub machen!".
It is true, the place is to relax, to feel good atmosphere and love in the air. Very beautiful place, and here I feel like at home. Very calm, small, beautiful - what else is needed from the city?
For the people who will decide to apply for the ERASMUS programme DO IT, but remember - it is not time to have just fun (it is the time to study hard). Also, very important is to choose the right country and university... For example, most of the people who did the same in southern countries (like Portugal, Spain...) - they did nearly nothing whole semester, and in the end they've got good marks, cause lecturers are not good in English, and finally - these people don't have any knowledge of what they studied.... but in Germany your brain will boil, and demanding professors would ask a lot from you... but then, even with low marks, you will know at least something!!!
And as with any other decision in life - think twice before do anything!
